Clarence B. Jones Appointed to Global Sports Development Board

April 16, 2009 Eugene, Oregon

If anybody has a sense of fair play, achievement and teamwork it’s Clarence B. Jones. Among his many homeruns include serving as counsel and speechwriter for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., becoming Wall Street’s first African American partner and making a name as a successful lawyer and author. Now he’s using his winning insights to give back.

The Foundation for Global Sports Development, formerly Justice for Athletes, announced today Jones’ appointment to the organization’s Board of Directors. As Special Advisor to the Executive Board, the organization will call upon him for advice regarding low-income youth, inner-city outreach, ethnic minorities, special challenges and other opportunities to better serve at-need children.

“Our organization places emphasis on groups and communities most at need,” says Dr. Steven Ungerleider, Psychologist and Executive Board Member of GSD. “Mr. Jones will bring invaluable insight into effectively improving the lives of disadvantaged youth through the vehicle of sport. He’s been a mentor to many people in many capacities from academia to the business world, and his leadership will go a long way in transforming the lives of young men and women around the world.”

Mr. Jones is currently Executive Consultant to Marks Paneth & Shron LLP, a New York-based financial services firm. He’s also a Scholar in Residence at Stanford University’s Martin Luther King, Jr. Research & Education Institute in Palo Alto, CA. In addition, he serves as both Senior Partner of Clemensen Capital Company, an investment banking boutique specializing in cross border finance for Korea, and President and CEO of CBJ Multimedia Associates, Inc., specializing in media and telecom. He also advised President Obama during the historic 2008 election.
